about
Sort of the final song about Debbie, for the EP "DebOrah", I imagined having a conversation with her at her grave site. Debbie died in 2000, leaving me, and our two children (Serena, age 13, Zane, not yet 12) behind. Ironically, Debbie was buried in a cemetery across the street from an airport runway. And it was right at that spot that we used to park the car, lie on the hood and get stoned while the planes zoomed in right over the top of us.
lyrics
Debbie Lou by Randy Matthews
D) It’s ten years more and now,
F#) Not sure what to say,
Em) Times’ve been thick, times’ve been thin,
G) Sometimes in the same day.
Feel better with the passage of time,
Though older like an aging wine,
Less and less I think of you,
It’s all I can stand to do.
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) I sure miss you,
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) You’re in my head,
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) I won’t forget you,
Em) But I’ve got to be moving on by the G) end of this song.
(repeat Verse chords)
Sitting here with you,
And what I’ve come to say,
Don’t get me wrong, gotta be strong,
Chase these fears away.
Was times in the past,
Thought I couldn’t last,
Messed in the head,
‘Cause you are dead,
Longing to be in your bed.
(repeat Chorus chords)
Debbie Lou,
I sure miss you,
Debbie Lou,
You’re in my head,
Debbie Lou,
Won’t forget you,
But I’ve got to be moving on by the end of this song.
Bm) The kids are grown up well,
A) Though after a spell,
G) Holidays are not the same,
F#) We remember your name.
Bm) It’s not that there’s someone new,
A) I’m trying to break through,
G) What I need is a fresh start,
F#) Get my horse before my heart.
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) I sure miss you,
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) You’re in my head,
Em) Debbie Lou,
D) I won’t forget you,
Em) But I’ve got to be moving on by the G) end of this song.
(repeat Verse chords)
Well, it’s time, I should go,
I guess, well…and so,
This one last talk, not sure if I can walk,
What am I going to do?
